The wedding banquet is recorded in the Bible, Matthew 22:1–10.
All those who were invited declined
A king prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He arranged a lavish feast and sent his servants to invite the guests to the celebration. However, those who were invited all declined: one said, “I need to go inspect my field”; another said, “I have business to attend to”; and some even went so far as to kill the servants. The king was furious and punished the murderers severely. Then he instructed his servants to go out into the streets and invite everyone they could find—no matter who they were, all were welcome to the banquet. In the end, the hall was filled with guests, and everyone enjoyed the abundant feast.
As long as one is willing, they can come to the banquet
This is a parable Jesus told. But what does it mean?
The king represents God, and the banquet symbolizes the joy of His kingdom. God invites everyone to enter His kingdom and share a place at His table. Sadly, many take the invitation lightly, some even rejecting or opposing God’s love and salvation. Yet God does not give up. He continues to invite, welcoming people regardless of their background or past. Whoever is willing may come and receive the blessings of His kingdom. As Jesus said, “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14)
