The Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1–13)
Wise Virgins Prepared with Enough Oil
In a Jewish wedding, ten virgins were preparing to escort the bride. Because of delays, the bridegroom had not yet arrived by evening. Five of the virgins were wise and had prepared enough oil for their lamps, while the other five were foolish and had not brought sufficient oil.Late at night, the bridegroom finally came! As everyone got ready to go out, the foolish virgins realized their lamps had run out of oil. The wise virgins didn’t have enough to share, so the foolish ones had to rush out to buy more. Meanwhile, the wise virgins went on to join the wedding banquet. By the time the foolish virgins returned with oil, the bridegroom had already received the bride, and the banquet hall doors were shut—they could no longer enter.Be Watchful and Prepare for the Lord’s Return
What does this story teach us? It is a parable Jesus told about the Kingdom of Heaven. The story warns us that we must always be prepared in order to seize every opportunity—once the moment is missed, regret may follow. We must stay alert and not be like the foolish virgins who failed to bring enough oil for their lamps. Every believer must live out a genuine faith, continually strengthening themselves and preparing for the Lord’s return. Jesus said: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)
